We are especially keen on submissions by young scholars nearing or having recently completed a Ph.D on Syria. The papers are meant to be given at a series of on-going conferences or workshops held over the next few years in St. Andrews, London or Damascus and for publication, either in a projected book length series on Syria in Transition, or in other formats, such as working papers. Those whose papers are selected will be invited to present them, with travel expenses paid; additionally a $250 (&pound;125) honorarium will be paid when papers are delivered and another $250 (&pound;125) if they are accepted for publication. He specialises in International Relations, Comparative Politics and Political Economy in the Middle East. He also has an interest in Third World development. His comparative politics work has focused on authoritarian regimes, political parties in the Middle East, economic liberalisation in the Middle East and rural politics and agrarian development in Syria.
