Syrian Clothes Designer Enthralls Turks

Syrian clothes designer has Turks enthralled. Yushra Kamil has become a finalist on the popular Turkish TV show “Project Mode.” This article explains that “although she wears a hijab herself, Ms. Kamil's clothing designs are the most interesting." (Thanks to Kaan Kutlu ATAC of Hacettepe Univ. for sending along this interesting article.)

You know, the designer’s personal style reminds me of Mohja Kahf, who also wears hijab – in the USA: Trendy pantsuit with a well cut jacket that covers the hips; strippy little high-heeled sandals; and beautiful, loosely-wrapped head scarf in a striking color.

Frankly the whole ensemble would be very appropriate for any businesswoman to wear to a spring luncheon – the scarf could simply be a fashion statement.

The couture clothes are indeed… interesting. Looks like Syrian women have the same taste as their flashy Lebanese sisters. It’s not for me (but then I’m in my 40s).

The Syrian regime talks about Arabism and liberating Golan Heights and Palestine at the same time they occupied another Arab country (Lebanon) close the borders anytime they want, and sucked billions from Lebanon!!!

Ghassan,

The bottom line is: Syrians ended the civil war in Lebanon after 100,000 Lebanese were kiled (mostly by Lebanese hands).

When Syria was handling the duties of ending the Lebanese civil war and losing over 10,000 soldiers in the process, Syria was also spending a lot of money doing so. Luckily the Syrian army did not cost a fraction of what the US army is costing the US today, but it was not cost-free. Over the thirty years that Lebanon outsourced to Syria the function of a national army and security apparatus and police Lebanon saved tens of billions.

Now your Lebanese army and security apparatus are costing you about 2 billions per year.

2 billions X 30 years = 60 billion dollars.

Take away the billions that Syria “sucked” out of Lebanon and you owe Syria big time anyway you look at it.

One last thing: Syria’s intervention on the side of the Christians in Lebanon cost Syria much more that those billions that are the only thing you can see. First, it was part of the motivation for the Muslim brotherhood’s hate to the Syrian regime. They started the three year terror campaign that caused grave damage to the Syrian economy. Arab gulf countries were also upset at Syria for “siding with the Christians” and “against the Palestinians”. Their economic support of Syria also got hit as a result.

So while Syria might have “made some profit” from being in Lebanon the last ten years, the overall intervention that ended your civil war was a very costly one to Syria, through direct and indirect costs.

Ghassan,

It is simply called a “diversion”.

The Arabs cry about Israel and Zionism and Jews and grievances and oppression and occupation while, at the same time, the Arabs suffer worse crimes from their own people.

One day, the Arab world will expect the same high standards from their own people as they do of others.

Expect the Syrians to re-occupy Lebanon once Lebanon begins to take control of their own country.

Wishful thinking! Keep dreaming. Look what happenned to Saddam after he invaded Kuwait!

I don’t have hatred against the Syrian people who are not supporting the Syrian Asad family mafia regime!
