Syria Comment Goes off-line for Maintenance
Posted by Joshua on Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Syria Comment will go off-line for several days. The site's database needs an overhaul and upgrade. During this maintenance time, there will be minimal functionality. We are sorry for this. Alex has very kindly offered to have one of his company's computer experts work on the site, at some expense to himself. I am very grateful for his expertise and generosity. We seem to have attracted the mischievous attentions of an SC devotee.
We will let you all know of our progress as soon as possible. In the meantime, I leave you with this pretty picture:
Damascus, Syria: Road to enchantment – Telegraph
On his first visit to the ravishing and extraordinary city of Damascus, Tim Jepson soon casts aside his preconceptions. …
Well, I did visit Damascus, and found it a ravishing city, with an extraordinary history, extraordinary sights and extraordinary people – kind, cultured, tolerant, hospitable, courteous and well-educated….
Damascus is utterly safe. This cannot be emphasised enough. There is no record of any Westerner being mugged, never mind kidnapped. Women can walk home alone in the small hours. No religious zealots harangue you; no would-be guides push themselves upon you; and not a soul hassles you to buy souvenirs.
