The alliance between rebels and Nusra terrorists is a major blow to whatever is left of rebels’ credibility. Short term military gains will be dwarfed by long term political loss as the result of befriending an organization that is deemed a terrorist group by most of the world. Rebels denounced the regime for bombing civilian areas and allying with Russia and Iran but they are shelling every Syrian city they can reach, working with terrorists and playing stooges for KSA and Qatar !!
By the way, the new moda now in opposition media is calling terrorists Fasael and Muqawamah (Brigades and Resistance groups).

Joshua is right, it is best to prevent Nusra and their supporters from having a piece of Syria. The rebels had 6 years to do something good for Syrians and they failed miserably. The alliance between rebels and Nusra (and at one time Isis) did not receive enough attention from western media but those who know Syria realized that we were witnessing a malignant shift in the war and the uncovering of who rebels really are. Chicken poop can not be used to make chicken soup, when you rise against a brutal and corrupt regime in the name of freedom and democracy but take Nusra et al as allies you are copying the behavior of an abused wife who leaves her thuggish husband and run with her kids to live with a drug dealer. There was plenty of reasons for Syrians to rise against the regime but it is the average Syrian who paid for the sins of turkey and the GCC who sold Syrian blood and treasure to win influence and fight Iran !!

Qaddafi’s downfall can only be cheered even as one is horrified by his brutal end and the unruly vengeance and looting that has overtaken several towns and parts of Libya. Unfortunately, it is easy to envisage similar destruction and violence being visited on Syria as so many now predict civil war . The government’s primary tactic for regaining control — inducing fear — increases the desire for retribution. Those of us with family in Syria are plotting ways to get them out as the situation becomes ever more violent.

2/3 of the Syrian soldiers who died fighting Nusra’s terrorists who tried unsuccessfully to invade Damascus were from Latakia and Tartous.
